I've been checking on any other bill like this. My wife's grandfather passed and she was told by her employer that did not qualify as immediately family and was then told she may take an unpaid single day, but if she takes any other days, she will be fired. The funeral is mid-week in NY and she is now devastated she can't go.
I was a told the same by my company, which I have only been working for during the past two months, so I have no days off accrued at all, I've also been told. "If you want to work here, you're going to have to keep personal matters to yourself." I resisted an attempt to severely injure the person who told me this and quit, because we, like so many others, are in an economic hole.
My reaction is one of sheer anger.
I'm sure the governor can take as many days off as he wants when ANYONE he knows dies, not just family members. Another reason I will work against him being elected to any other political office in the future.
